We live in a village with tons of youth, they are bright, and driven but not given any opportunity being a minority tribe here, and being poor farmers. Most of the parents can't read or write and don't see the worth in education so these two things lead to despair and dropping out of school. My Farmer and I advocate for their education passionately everyday, pushing students to not give up on their public school. We have work with each individual and see their motivation and take into account the level of desperate situations. Some girls are in danger of becoming prostitutes, some boys working construction that will kill them young. Please join us as we send different youth in this village to further their education, to keep their lives safe, and their futures hopeful. Here are a few that we are sponsoring now. This page will constantly be updated with students, some who don't yet have a sponsor, some who do. Enjoy their smiles as much as we do!
Meet San! He is 17, one of our dearest friends and the funniest kid I know. He likes soccer, playing guitar and wants to be a flannel wearing, bearded mountain man. He had to drop out of high school to work dangerous construction by 15 because his dad died suddenly. He grieves his dad everyday but has found family amongst My Farmer and I. He just got accepted into a trade school in the capitol city, we are sad to see him go for awhile but so proud of him. He is not yet sponsored and will start July 2017 to start his first term.
Meet Auw. He is 20 and the only believer in his family. He is somebody always seeking to help, he is a giver through and through. He always offers to buy me internet cards or help our internet run faster even though he works so hard for every penny he makes. He has dreams and is somebody who isn't idle when a lot of his peers are. We love him and he is hopefully also going with San to the same trade school the end of the summer 2017. He is not yet sponsored.
This is Carmani and Phon, they are the brightest and most positive girls in the village. Some of the few that aren't boy crazy, and never gossip. I really believe they will help me lead the next generation of women. They are currently in a trade school for being a nanny, and cleaning lady for city people. They have grown and matured so much, we are ready for them to come home. These girls are already sponsored.
Meet Chan and Haht, two girls I have known for four years. Chan is shy and loves taking care of children. Haht is outgoing and serves everyone around her. Haht had particular danger of being sent on the streets, she can't read or write but I have never seen a girl work so hard. Chan can read and write, and desires to take care of children who don't have parents full time. But her family doesn't share her values and was forcing her in the fields everyday. They have both been sponsored to go to seamstress school which is a highly desired vocation here. This will provide sustainable living outside of the streets and fields so they can pursue caring for others. We love these girls, they started the month of August 2016. They are now graduated and sewing out of the village.
